- Nasdaq is currently one of the hottest
exchanges featuring
high tech stocks
such as Microsoft and Intel. Nasdaq is a great alternative to
the NYSE.

AMEX
(American Stock Exchange) |
- The
American Stock Exchange is located
in New York City. It is smaller then the NYSE exchange consisting of
660 seats and 1,000 listed stocks. Companies represented on the AMEX
are usually smaller and more speculative then the ones listed on
NYSE. The regional stock exchanges are located in Boston, Memphis,
Chicago, Pacific and Philadelphia. Today, many companies have
listings on both AMEX and NYSE and a regional exchange.

York Stock Exchange (NYSE) |
- NYSE is one of the oldest and most popular
organized stock exchange in the U.S. It consists of 1,400 seats that
allow access to the trading floor where members have an option to
pay from $500,000 - $1,000,000 for each seats. The New York Stock
Exchange lists about 2,400 stocks and the companies must meet
requirements related to size and profitability which would virtually
guarantee that the companies will be a part of the
largest and most profitable companies
in the country.

S&P 500 |
- A measure called
Standard & Poor's 500: Uses the price changes of 500
representative stocks on the NYSE, OTC markets & AMEX. The
measurement is given an index number because the sum of 500 stock
prices would be too large.

OTCBB |
- Over-the-Counter Bulletin board (an
electronic quotation system for unlisted stocks) overseen by the
National Association of Securities Dealers
- Is not a part of the NASDAQ Stock
Market.
- Under the OTCBB eligibility rule, if a
company wishes to have their securities quoted, they must file
current financial reports with the SEC or other banking regulators.
- If a company on the OTCBB fails to file
financials with the SEC, it becomes listed on another system:

PINKSHEETS |
- Similar to the OTCBB, Pink Sheet stocks are
over the counter stocks that are not traded on the NASDAQ. The Pink
Sheets contain bid and ask prices and the market makers for these
OTC stocks.
